There are a variety of software tools out there to help you make your models. Your choice of tool(s) for use with your students will depend on a variety of factors:

This application (processing program) introduces students to how to translate a 2D image into 3D custom cookie cutters. Make extruded shapes, tessellations, maps or generate images to represent a poem or story.
