Work from memory:

• Make a sketch of your house or make a floor plan of your apartment
• When you have completed your sketch, use SketchUp to make a 3D model.

Homework

Look at your house, measure your rooms, draw a sketch of your house or a sketch of your floor plan from direct observation.

Next class

• Compare the sketches done from memory with the ones from direct observation.
  
  
• Think about how the spaces are related to one another.
  
  
• How is it possible that you can live in a space and not truly be aware of it?
  
  
• Is there a difference between an artistic or observational way of seeing and seeing for information, as you might do as you drive a car and see a stop sign.
  
  

Assignment 1:

• Sketch out a space in 2D that you would like people to interact in. Then model that space in 3D. Think about quality of light, the size of the space, the color and texture of the finishes, the forms, the particular style of this place.
