Hinged Box

Autodesk&tm; 123D Design is an application that runs in a Web-GL enabled web browser, an iPad and on a computer. It allows you to drag, drop and combine primitive shapes, and also has pre-defined models that can be combined together or with the primitive shapes.

  1. Select Box from Primitive Shapes

  2. Set your box dimensions to 5x 50 x 30:

  3. Select the top face and choose shell:

  4. Set shell to 2mm:

  5. Copy and paste the box. Lift up 30mm:

  6. Flip the copy 180°

  7. Add a cylinder on its side with radius=4mm , height= 5mm:

  8. Reposition the cylinder:

  9. Select box

  10. Make your box 6 x 10 x 5

  11. Reposition the box. Keep in mind that you want the box to close so you need the cylinder to be positioned away from the edge of the box and the angle of the cube should be (about 26mm over, 4mm down and a 40% rotation):

  12. Select the bottom of the box:

  13. Click on the eye to hide the bottom of the box:

  14. Select the top edge of the box that intersected with the bottom of the box and tweak it:

  15. Tweak the bottom edge

  16. Combine the cylinder and the tweaked box:

  17. Show the solid you hid:

  18. Select Pattern and select the hinge as the solid:

  19. Select the direction:

  20. Set pattern:

  21. Copy the first hinge and move it up:

  22. Reposition the copy:

  23. Extrude the face:

  24. Select Regular Pattern

  25. Select the copied and modified hinge as the solid:

  26. Set the direction and the pattern:

  27. Combine the top of the box with the top hinges:

  28. Do the same for the bottom box and bottom hinges:

  29. Add a cylinder for the hole. Make the radius=2.5 and the height=50:

  30. Position the hole, then add another cylinder centered on the hole. This second cylinder should have a radius=2 and height =50:

  31. Subtract the hole from the top of the box:

  32. Join the bottom of the box with the adjusted cylinder with the radius of 2:

  33. Select the top of the box, rotate and move so that the hinges are aligned and both boxes are on the ground plane:
